Tell us about yourself and your brand! How did you start your business
Thanks for inviting me to be here, Upstate of Mind! I’m Erin, the owner and photographer behind Erin Fortin Photography (EFP). We help businesses bring their brands to life, evoking a sense of personal connection with their customers. I started studying photo in 2009, while simultaneously working on my chemistry Ph.D. In 2018, I took a leap of faith, left my corporate engineering job, and went fulltime photo. Turns out, I like working with people way more than robots!
How did you end up in Upstate New York?
My partner, our 2 little kids, and I moved from Portland, OR to Saratoga Springs, NY in April 2022. We’ve lived in the Mountain West for 15 years and wanted to seek a new adventure!
What made you pick Saratoga?
We were really attracted to the cute downtown, proximity to the Adirondacks (/family), and great schools.
What has been your favorite thing about Upstate so far? Any favorite local spots yet?
Trail running and SUPing in the Adirondacks with our family (who recently moved to the Adirondacks, too!) has been our favorite. Saratoga Springs is also chalked full of fantastic small businesses. Kru Coffee is perfect for client consults. I also love grabbing healthy meal Go Boxes from 9 Miles East and beers from Druthers on the way home from a SUP on Garnet Lake.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
Creating meaningful connections between communities and their local, small businesses. After all, they’re the lifeblood of our towns!
Tell us about the rest of your team!
Thanks for asking! I’m the lead photographer for EFP NY. I have another office in Portland, OR where my associate photographers, Nate and Carlos, serve our new and returning clients. You can learn more about how our team serves brand photography here.
Where have you adventured already?
Pinnacle Trail, Crane Mountain, and Garnet Lake.
What does having an Upstate of Mind mean to you?
Seeking adventure, living with intention, and never settling for “good enough”!
Any fun facts about yourself?
I’ve run 200 miles through the Swiss/French/Italian Alps, eaten ramen noodles for 3 months to save enough to go on safari in Kenya, and grew up in Singapore!
