Meet Rebecca Loomis, an Adirondack wedding photographer whose journey into photography began with a simple yet profound desire to tell stories. From an early age, Rebecca was drawn to the art of storytelling, a passion that crystallized during a college photography class. Her graduation gift—a camera—marked the beginning of a career; Rebecca discovered a deep appreciation for capturing joy and today, she specializes in Adirondack Wedding Photography by using her lens to document and share the unique stories of couples everywhere.

Hi there! Tell us more about yourself! Where are you from?

Hey, Upstate of Mind! My name is Becca, and I own Rebecca Loomis Photography, a Wedding & Brand Photography business based out of New York’s Capital Region. I’m from the Philadelphia area but moved to Upstate New York in 2019! I love the mountains and hiking, and felt right at home here once I moved.

How did you first get into wedding photography, and what inspired you to specialize in this field?

I first started in the wedding industry when I was fourteen as a coat check! From there, I moved into catering and served as a waitress all throughout college. Once I learned more about photography, it was such a natural transition to take wedding photos!
To be honest, I didn’t want to always be a wedding photographer, but I love connecting with people and making them feel comfortable. Wedding photography has combined my wedding and photo skills all the while giving me an opportunity to exercise my love for hospitality in a unique way!

If you could describe your photography style using three words, what would they be, and why?

Oooh, I would say that I am a natural, fun and relaxed photographer! I personally feel awkward in front of a camera and understand how intimidating a photoshoot can be. I truly believe that the best photos are taken when people feel relaxed and able to be themselves, and I want to give couples the kind of photo experience I hope for myself!

How do you balance your schedule when taking on multiple weddings in a year or even in a single day?

This is a great question! I only take on one wedding per weekend and give myself at least one weekend off a month, even during the busiest months when I make most of my income! I also try to do things like dedicating one night per week for meetings and clocking out at 5pm most days, kind of like I’m working a traditional corporate job.
I’m all about making this business sustainable for the long-run, and that means making sure that I’m not so busy capturing other people’s moments that I don’t have any moments of my own.

What's the most adventurous or daring thing you've done in pursuit of the perfect shot in the Adirondacks?

One time I went kayaking and helped another person get their canoe back to shore all while having my camera equipment with me to take photos!

Beyond photography, what are your favorite pastimes or hobbies?

I play the violin and am part of a community orchestra in the area! I also love hiking, board games, and spending time with family and friends.

How do you stay creative and inspired, especially when working with the same landscapes in the Adirondacks?

I stay inspired by being intentional with getting to know my couples and their unique story! I like to see how I can personalize every experience to their relationship and that helps me stay creative when I go to very familiar locations.

What is your favorite spot in all of the Adirondacks?

This is way too hard of a question! I love taking out-of-town guests to Sleeping Beauty Mountain, because it’s not too hard of a hike but has an absolutely BEAUTIFUL view!

How do you achieve/embrace your Upstate of Mind?

I embrace my Upstate of Mind by following I Love NY's fall foliage report and trying to catch the best that fall has to offer in the area!
