There’s so many hidden gems around the Capital Region to enjoy and indulge in, but on 518 Day, we’ve got to make some stops at the local staples that have helped bring a name to Albany and the surrounding areas.

Whether you’ve got a hankering for their delicious made to order grilled cheese sandwiches, or shopping for the perfect pairing to go with your Friday night wine, The Cheese Traveler will transport you to another world, via blocks of dairy goodness.
Go-To Nature Spots
Adventuring in the Capital Region has never been easier! Now that the weather has warmed up to a tolerable temperature, it’s time to grab some sneakers and a water bottle and head out to enjoy the great outdoors! For an easy walk with beautiful views, check out Peebles Island State Park, these trails also speak history from the American Revolution and contain the site of the last stand taken against the British Army in Albany. Just want to relax outside and enjoy the sun? Check out many parks in the 518 like Prospect Park, Hayes Nature Park, and Congress Park.
Want some more education in your nature walk? Be sure to visit the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. Located near the Albany International Airport, this beautiful nature park includes a 3,400 acre preserve as well as a discovery center where kids and adults can learn about the wildlife in the Capital Region. While you’re there, see if you can catch a glimpse of the Karner Butterfly, an federally endangered species of butterfly.
